Meet the neighbours

The world-class Sails at Lavender Bay is just a stone’s throw away.

“No one ever tires of the view,” said Perry Drakopoulos, Sydney Restaurant Group Director. “The challenge was to renovate and fit out the interior of Sails in a way that compliments the iconic views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge,” Perry continues.

The recent renovation of Sails at Lavender Bay, which Perry led in partnership with Larissa Leigh Interiors, has proven to be a real hit with existing and new customers alike. “Our customers are always delighted to savour the postcard views from the restaurant’s position on the water’s edge, and the new shared tasting menu and a la carte menu always receive a positive reception,” says Perry with pride.

Sails is one of the jewels in the crown of the Drakopoulos family’s Sydney Restaurant Group. Perry’s sister, Nicola (and fellow Director) crafted the cocktail list and the family’s vision for Sails and all of the group’s restaurants is to provide welcoming and memorable dining experiences in beautifully scenic locations across Sydney.

Head Chef, Ben Jung – who has risen up through the ranks in the kitchen – has teamed with group executive chef Adam Spencer to deliver a culinary experience inspired by the Mediterranean, Asia and Australia.

“Sails has earned a reputation for delivering simple yet flawlessly prepared cuisine. Our menu celebrates simplicity with vibrant, unpretentious dishes, showcasing the best local and seasonal produce, including a delightful array of seafood that pays homage to our stunning waterfront location,” adds Perry and Nicola’s brother and fellow Director, Daniel Drakopoulos.

“Our group sommelier, Iain Wood has paired the Sails 5-course shared tasting menu with a range of local and international wines that diners really enjoy exploring,” says Daniel. One tantalising pairings includes three freshly shucked oysters served with wakame oil and native-Australian finger lime, and a Tasmanian NV House of Arras ‘Blanc de Blanc’ Chardonnay. Another tempting option is the Sails signature dish of Moreton Bay Bug Spaghettini with XO shellfish emulsion, Thai basil oil with a perfectly chilled glass of 2022 Unico Zelo ‘River Sand’ Fiano from South Australia’s Riverland region.

A la carte favourites like Barbecue Eggplant, Butternut Pumpkin Terrine, Cone Bay Barramundi, Charred Fremantle Octopus and Steak Frites are well worth discovering too.

When asked what can the residents of The McMahon expect when they come to Sails to dine, Daniel responds, “A premium dining experience in a sophisticated yet laid back setting. Simple yet flawlessly prepared dishes with a focus on seafood, and an open invitation to make Sails your home away from home just 5 minutes away.”
